Buying a Hosting Book? Use a $4.50 cPanel Reseller License (2026)

Buying a Hosting Book? Use a $4.50 cPanel Reseller License (2026)

You just agreed to buy a small hosting book: 60 cPanel accounts, about $480 a month in recurring revenue, and a seller who wants out before the holiday ticket rush. The multiple looks fair. Then you price the panel that has to carry those accounts on day one. The seller’s license does not come with the customers. On the public cPanel Store list for 2026 (effective December 16, 2025), Pro Cloud is $53.99 a month and stops at 30 accounts. Sixty accounts do not fit. The next Store seat is Premier at $69.99 a month. That bill was not in the purchase spreadsheet, and it repeats every month you own the book.

Buyers hit this in October, when operators shop their client lists before the holiday ticket rush. The revenue is real. The license shock is what makes a cheap acquisition expensive. A cPanel reseller license with unlimited WHM accounts is the line item that protects the multiple you paid.

The Store invoice that appears after you sign

cPanel’s own Store tiers, published for 2026, are account caps with a price on each cap:

  • Solo Cloud: 1 account, $29.99 a month ($329.49 a year)
  • Admin Cloud: up to 5 accounts, $35.99 a month ($395.49 a year)
  • Pro Cloud: up to 30 accounts, $53.99 a month ($593.49 a year)
  • Premier Cloud: 100 accounts included, $69.99 a month, then $0.49 for each account past 100 (no annual price)
  • Premier Metal: the same $69.99 and the same $0.49 overage, and the only Store tier sold for bare metal

Solo, Admin, and Pro are Cloud-only. If the book lives on a dedicated server, the Store does not offer a $29.99 or $53.99 metal seat. You are quoted Premier Metal at $69.99 before you create account number one. We covered that metal-only rule in the $8 affordable WHM license breakdown for bare metal. The ladder itself is the same trap described in what happens when you outgrow a one-account seat and in the 2026 Store price hike.

Map a typical book onto those caps:

  • 40 to 100 accounts on a VPS. Pro is not legal room. You pay Premier at $69.99 a month, $839.88 a year, even if you only need 40 logins.
  • 150 accounts on dedicated hardware. Premier Metal is $69.99 plus 50 × $0.49 = $24.50, so $94.49 a month, $1,133.88 a year.
  • A five-node book (three cloud servers over 30 accounts, two metal servers). Three Premier Cloud seats are 3 × $69.99 = $209.97. Two Premier Metal seats are 2 × $69.99 = $139.98. Together that is $349.95 a month, $4,199.40 a year, before any overage.

None of those Store prices include the server, backups, or the support time you inherit with the clients. They are panel rent on top of the acquisition price.

What one Premier year does to the multiple you paid

Take 60 accounts at $8 average revenue. That is $480 a month. At a 10× multiple the check is about $4,800. Premier on that node is $839.88 in year one — more than 17% of the purchase price — for a seat that still caps included accounts at 100 and then bills $0.49 each.

Growth after closing makes the Store seat worse. Add 45 accounts and you are past 100, where Premier bills $0.49 each. Another 80-account book bolted on later is 80 × $0.49 = $39.20 every month on top of $69.99. That meter is why hosts stop paying account tiers and give each acquired client their own cPanel login instead of stacking addon domains to dodge the cap.

Budget an overlap month too. Licenses follow an IP. While DNS and mail cut over, the old server and the new server both need a seat. Two Premier seats for that month are $139.98. Two flat VPS licenses are $9.00. Same idea as licensing a temp server for a bulk move.

A flat license with unlimited accounts

cPanelSave sells a cPanel and WHM license for hosts who bill clients, not for a single brochure site. The VPS license is $4.50 a month. The dedicated license is $8.00 a month. Both include unlimited cPanel accounts on WHM, which is what you need when a book arrives all at once. A cPanel reseller license here is reseller licensing from cPanelSave, trusted since 2017. It is not a cPanel Inc. contract and not a manufacturer endorsement. You get our activation path, direct updates, and 24/7 support from our team. You do not get Store support entitlement. Read the about page before you wire the seller.

That product shape matches an acquisition:

  • Unlimited accounts. A 40-account book and a 150-account book use the same license fee on a given server. No jump from $53.99 to $69.99 at account 31, and no $0.49 meter after 100.
  • Direct updates. The panel you inherit can keep current cPanel and WHM releases without a rebuild just to stay licensed.
  • Stable activation on the IP you will actually run. New box or the seller’s box, once you control it.
  • Instant setup in the client area so the license exists before the transfer weekend, not the Monday after a failed Store checkout.
  • 24/7 support from cPanelSave when the cutover gets awkward. For a human during that weekend, contact support.

Same scenarios, cPanelSave pricing:

  • 40 to 100 accounts on one VPS: $4.50 a month, $54 a year. Against Premier at $839.88, you keep $785.88 in year one.
  • 150 accounts on dedicated: $8.00 a month, $96 a year. Against $1,133.88 of Premier Metal plus overage, you keep $1,037.88.
  • Three VPS nodes and two dedicated nodes: 3 × $4.50 = $13.50, plus 2 × $8.00 = $16.00, so $29.50 a month, $354 a year. Against $4,199.40 on the Store, you keep $3,845.40 in the first year. That is real money next to a five-figure purchase, or it is the budget that makes a smaller deal financeable at all.

Get your license — the VPS cPanel reseller license is $4.50/month, and it is the usual fit when the book arrives on a cloud server. If the acquired machine is bare metal, do not force a VPS license onto it. Start saving today with the $8.00 dedicated license instead. Wrong environment, failed activation. The order is non-refundable, so pick the type before you pay.

Activate now and park the whole client list on unlimited accounts under one reseller license. The same flat fee is what makes scaling past the first dozens of clients and a path toward $1,000 hosting MRR a pricing decision, not a license decision. Noisy neighbors on an inherited box are separate: add CloudLinux at $4.00 a month from the plans page if you want account isolation. LiteSpeed is listed there if you will charge for speed after the move. Billing the new book through WHMCS fits the same model — see WHMCS on a $4.50 reseller license so import night does not stop on an account cap. More buying guides are on the cPanelSave blog.

How to license the server before transfer weekend

Order before the seller pulls their license. An unlicensed WHM during cutover is how a simple book sale becomes a Saturday outage. Count real cPanel users, note VPS versus dedicated, and check that the OS is still supported. Direct updates keep a current server licensed. They do not repair an ancient OS, and they do not remove the support load you should already have priced into the multiple.

  1. Count accounts and write down VPS or bare metal. Check license type, updates, and the non-refundable policy on the FAQ.
  2. Compare plans. Most acquired cloud nodes take the $4.50 VPS license. Bare metal takes the $8.00 dedicated license. Add CloudLinux at $4.00 only if the book needs isolation on day one.
  3. Get your license in the client area. Activation is available as soon as the order completes, using the IP you will run.
  4. Apply the license to the installed WHM. You do not reinstall cPanel to switch licensing. Confirm the status inside WHM, create or import accounts, then move DNS and mail on your schedule.

FAQ

Does the seller’s cPanel license transfer with the clients?

Plan on your own license for the IP you will operate. Store licenses are purchased by the current operator and tied to a server. cPanelSave activations are issued in our client area for your IP, with our support. We are not cPanel Inc., and we do not take over someone else’s manufacturer contract.

Are these licenses stable, and do they receive updates?

Yes when you buy from a provider that actually maintains the activation path. cPanelSave has done this since 2017, with direct updates so WHM can follow current releases, and with 24/7 support if activation fails after an update. That support is ours. It is not a pass-through to the software vendor.

Can I get a refund if the deal falls through?

No. License sales are non-refundable. Confirm VPS versus dedicated, and confirm the IP, before checkout. If the acquisition might slip a month, time the order for the week you will actually boot the server. The FAQ states the same policy in writing.

Which license do I buy for this book, VPS or dedicated?

Cloud, KVM, and provider VPS nodes use the $4.50 VPS license. A physical dedicated server uses the $8.00 license. Matching the environment is what makes activation stick. The Store side of this choice is harsher: metal buyers only see Premier Metal at $69.99. Here both shapes stay flat, and both include unlimited accounts.

Will unlimited accounts let me import every customer on day one?

A cPanel reseller license does not meter you at 5, 30, or 100 accounts, and it does not add $0.49 after 100. Import the list. The ceiling you still respect is CPU, disk, and mail on that machine. If the seller was already swapping, fix the hardware or split the book across two $4.50 nodes instead of buying a larger Store tier to feel safer.

License the book before the seller turns the panel off

A hosting book is a stack of cPanel logins plus the right to bill them. If the panel that holds those logins costs $69.99, or $94.49 once you cross 100 accounts, the multiple you negotiated is thinner than the spreadsheet says. A cPanel reseller license at $4.50 on each VPS, or $8.00 on each dedicated server, keeps unlimited WHM accounts in the deal and leaves the first-year savings — $785.88 on one cloud node, $1,037.88 on a 150-account metal box, $3,845.40 on a five-node mix — inside the business you just bought.

Transfer weekends do not wait on procurement. Compare plans, then activate now on the destination IP. Have the license live before you accept the last rsync.
